MATAMATA TRACKWORK TUESDAY 8TH MAY 2018 -recorded by Dennis Ryan
Underthemoonlight shaped up for her Rotorua weekend assignment with solid work at Matamata this morning.
Galloping 18 metres out on the dead course proper with trainer Karyn McQuade in the saddle, Underthemoonlight strode over the last 1200 metres of her work in 1:20.3, 1000m in 1:06.1 and finishing off with a smart 600m section in 37.6.
A series of setbacks ruled out a Sydney autumn campaign for the classy racemare, but at anywhere near her best she will make her presence felt in Saturday’s Rotorua Stakes.
Temple Tiger (Fawcett) drew attention to his Rotorua prospects with sound work over 1000m in 1:08.8 and 600m in 38.6. Over the same ground Wonder Woman (Rusof) was unextended to record 1:12.8 and 41.
Rotorua entry Sound Works (Rusof) looked bright in her gallop over 1200m in 1:20.3, 1:04.2 and 38. Stablemate Za Za Gabor (Lammas) worked over ground and was timed from the 1200m in 1:24.5, 1:08.7 and 40.8. The Moroney/Gerard-trained filly is in good order ahead of her assignment in Adelaide next week.
On the plough Divine Duke (S Weatherley) and Resurgence (S McKay) prepared for their respective weekend engagements at Rotorua and New Plymouth with a solid hitout over 1200m in 1:16.8, 1:01.4 and 36.5.
Rotorua entry Suliman (Hashazumi) was partnered by Paisley Park (Singh) over the last 1200m of his work in 1:25.9, 1:08.6 and 39.4, while Tweedledee (Osborne) returned 1:25.4, 1:09.2 and 40.5.
Trueman (Lammas) worked boldly ahead of Rotorua with 1200m in 1:21.2, 1:05.2 and 39. Promising two-year-old Sagunto (P McKay), who runs at New Plymouth, went with Ride The Storm (S McKay) over 1000m in 1:06.7 and 37.5.
Future Patch (Loon) and Serious Patch (S Weatherley) were paired over 1000m in 1:08.5, but fog prevented any sectional timing. Pacquiao (Zuppicich) and Raspberry Sweet (Handley) finished their work off well over 1000m in 1:11.2 and 39.8.
On the all-weather track New Plymouth pair Alphastar (Danis) and Sure He Can (S McKay) cut out 1000m in 1:04.9 and 600m in 36.8.
Singapore-bound Ocean Emperor (Johannsen) completed striding work by running in freely from the 600m in 38.6. The Zabeel entire is making good progress for trainer Gary Hennessy ahead of his flight to Singapore on May 17.
