Matamata Trackwork Tuesday 10 October 2017: Recorded by Dennis Ryan
10 Oct 2017

Sleeping Beauty looked right on target to continue in winning form on her home track this weekend when she galloped stylishly at Matamata this morning.

Working 20 metres out on the course proper, which was in the Heavy10 range, Sleeping Beauty (S Weatherley) travelled up strongly to the end of 1000m in 1:07.4, with the final 600m in 38.7. The O’Sullivan/Scott-trained mare has made impressive progress through the grades with wins at her last three starts and will step up to Rating 85 company on Saturday.

Cote D’Or (Coleman), another form runner in the Vela colours, prepared for the Team Wealleans Matamata Cup when working against the rail, cutting out 1200m in 1:24.4, 1000m in 1:08.8 and 600m in 39.5. The Ken and Bev Kelso-trained mare has made excellent progress since her recent fresh-up win.

Matamata Cup rivals Our King Sway (A Jones) and Tessastock (Handley) were evenly matched over a solidly run 1200m in 1:17.6, with the last 1000m in 1:03.9 and finishing off well for a final section in 37.4. Our King Sway is fitter for his New Plymouth second, while Tessastock, who won one of her three winter starts in Queensland, is in forward order after a recent trial.

Charles Road (Coleman) prepared for the Matamata Cup with his last 1200m in 1:19.9, 1:05.7 and 38.2. Any improvement in track conditions will enhance his weekend prospects.

Underthemoonlight (Lammas) galloped on the sand in company with Hay Tiger (R Jones), where they ran a slick 1000m in 1:02.4 and 600m in 35.6. Underthemoonlight is in capital order to defend her Taranaki Breeders’ Stakes crown at Hawera, while Hay Tiger will warrant respect in his home track assignment.

Back on the course proper at 20 metres, Hello M’Lady (Lammas) prepared for Hawera with a sound gallop over 1200m in 1:22.4, 1:08 and 39.6. Astor (Dowling) looked bright when well held over 1000m in 1:09 and 40.5. She is an entry for the three-year-old 1400 at Matamata.

Race rivals Te Akau Shark (McNab) and Wandering Eyes (Lammas) were also not after time in their work over 1000m in 1:12.4 and 41.2, while Makarios (Satyajeed) returned 1:09.2 and 40.9, Fashionably (Lammas) and Wide Awake (McNab) 1:09.9 and 40, Piazza (Ravi) 1:10 and 41.3, and Sarabande (J Collett) 1:12.2 and 41.8.

Pacquiao (Gorham) and Four Degrees (Hasazume) strode over 1200m in 1:26.5, 1:10.7 and 41.6. She’s Prismatic (J Price) was timed from the 800m in 55.6 and 41.2.

On the sand last-start winner Joe Cargo (S Turner) strode into his work well to record 1:20.2 for his last 1200m, 1:06.4 and 38.3.

Dontbreakmyheart (P Brosnan) left 1000m behind in 1:10.8 and 41.6, while Fame Seeker (Handley) did similar work in 1:10.7 and 42.4. Glass Slipper (S Weatherley) was kept to 1:15.8 and 44.1 over 1000m, It’s a Kinda Magic (P Brosnan) and a Fast ‘N’ Famous filly (A Jones) took 1:10.2 and 38.6, and Real Savvy (S Weatherley) strode in from the 800m in 54.8 and 39.1.
